CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETINGS

Brookhaven City Council Regular Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are open to the public and take place City Hall located at 101 West Chickasaw Street.

These meetings are formal sessions where elected officials conduct city business, discuss ordinances, and make decisions. They provide the public with the opportunity to observe city proceedings firsthand and include a structured comment period for individuals to make statements or express concerns to the mayor and city council members collectively. Per MS Code Section 25-41-5, an agenda is made available to the public at the time of the meeting.

While the comment period is not structured as a question-and-answer session like a town hall meeting, all comments are thoughtfully considered. To discuss questions or concerns, contact your alderman, alderman-at-large, or mayor. Contact information is available here. As the administrator and official representative of the City of Brookhaven, the mayor can be contacted directly at 601-833-1414.

To request placement on the meeting agenda, contact the City Clerk’s Office at 601-833-2362. Standard procedure requires request forms to be completed and received in the City Clerk’s Office by noon on the Thursday prior to the meeting at which you plan to present. Comments are limited to five minutes per person.

Regular Meetings are live-streamed on YouTube (City of Brookhaven, Mississippi), allowing those unable to attend to stay engaged and informed. Note that live streaming is unavailable during teleconference meetings due to inclement weather conditions or if there are internet connectivity issues.

Executive Session Meetings are not open to the public. In accordance with MS Code Section 25-41-7, certain matters are addressed during executive sessions rather than public meetings to ensure the appropriate management of sensitive information.

Regular meeting minutes and other public records are available upon request. To obtain copies, submit a completed Records Request Form at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 101 West Chickasaw Street. Standard document copying fees apply.
